#BILTAsia 2018 – Singapore here I come

This year the BILT Asia conference is taking place in Singapore at the Marina Bay Sands on April 5th – 7th, 2018.

I have never been to Singapore and wasn’t sure if I would submit any abstracts for the 2018 BILT Asia event going on there. However, all of that changed last May when I attended a local user group (cBIMc) meeting here in Calgary. That night Phil Read was presenting about Enscape, we had a few minutes to chat and he told me how much fun he had just a few weeks before when he was in Singapore for BILT Asia 2017. What can I say Phil is a good salesman, I was hooked!

So when the request for abstracts opened last Septemeber I send in my submissions and waited. Fast forward to mid-December and I was lucky enough to get an email telling me that one of my abstracts had been selected!

My session info is below:

Session: Fun with FormIt Pro – A Lab to Hone Your FormIt Skills

This Lab session will focus on some of the newer features of FormIt Pro, as well as Tips and Tricks to help with your FormIt Pro Workflow.

During this session, we will create a building with FormIt Pro using the Windows app. We will also spend some time understanding the Dynamo Studio workflow within FormIt Pro for Windows, and how we can use for quick design iterations.

Learning Objectives:

  • Overview of what’s new with FormIt Pro
  • The Dynamo Studio + FormIt Pro Workflow
  • Improve your FormIt workflow
  • Discover some work-arounds for those wish-list commands that aren’t out yet

Class Length: 75 Minutes

Class Type: Hands-on Lab

Session Number: 3.1

Date: Saturday, April 7th

Time: 9:00 am – 10:15 am

Of course, there are many great speakers that will be at this years BILT Asia, Joe Banks, Kelly Cone and Jeremy Graham to name a few.

You can see the full Speaker line up HERE.

As well as the full Scheule of sessions HERE.

Registration is now open and can found on the BILT Asia website, or by clicking the link below

While any BILT conference is worth the trip, a chance to spend some time in this bad boy doesn’t hurt either.

AU 2017 – Submissions are Closed Now it’s Time to Vote!

This year Autodesk University is changing things up a little when it comes to how submissions for AU 2017 are selected. This year they are publishing all 2,257 abstracts that got submitted on or before the May 17th deadline. You can head over the Autodesk University Website to review all submissions and vote for the ones you like here.

Now to be clear – voting isn’t the only means by which submissions get selected for AU 2017 but rather another tool for the selection committee to use in ensuring the best lineup. This can be seen in the verbiage used on the voting page:

I will start by sharing AU2016 by the numbers (at least according to the Autodesk University Website).

AU 2016 Registration Opens Aug. 17th – Here Are Some Class Options

2016-08-16_20-08-03

The registration for this year’s University is set to open on August 17th, and when it does you will have a ton of classes to choose from in all sorts of disciplines and software. I thought I would help out with the selection process by suggesting a few classes from this year’s course catalog.

When does 22 = 4? Why At Autodesk University 2016 of Course

2016-07-01_13-12-20

The AU 2016 acceptance emails came out at the end of last week and I was lucky enough to receive one again this year! I was surprised, maybe even a little shocked, to read that I had been accepted for 4 sessions! Maybe I got 4 because AU classes are divided into four types: Instructional Demo, Hands-on Lab, Roundtable, and Industry Talk and I have a class for each type.

FormIt Friday Episode 11: Friday 12/18! With Carl Storms

2015-12-17_9-56-32

UPDATE: Video from this FormIt Friday now live – Link at bottom of this post

I am honoured and excited to have been asked to share some of what I talked about at AU 2015 a few weeks ago in Vegas with all the FormIteers on the last FormIt Friday of 2015.

This is going to be a recap session of what I did at AU, as well as a chance to talk about some of the class feed back. As well as getting to spend a little time to focus on some things that there just wasn’t enough time to fit in at AU.

Here are all the details from the FormIt 360 Blog.

FormIt Friday Episode 11: Friday 12/18! With Carl Storms!

Hi Everyone – We’re getting close to closing out 2015 and we want to have one more FormIt Friday to send the year off in style.

We’ve been lucky enough to make the acquaintance of power user Carl Storms. (aka the BIMsider) He led not one, but by popular demand, TWO AU sessions of his cleverly and aptly titled session: “FormIt + Revit = bye bye SketchUp’. Obviously the class resonated with many attendees and he’s agreed to share his knowledge with those who didn’t attend AU.

You can register by clicking the link below

FormIt Friday #11 – Friday Dec. 18th – 10:00 am – 11:00 am MST (12:00 pm – 1:00 pm EST)

If you are interested in seeing a full version of my AU class: “Revit + FormIt = Bye Bye SketchUp” I will be doing it one more time in January at the IMAGINiT Online BIM User Group – January 12, 2016 1:30 – 3 PM Eastern Time

Register at www.imaginit.com/events

Here is the information about what my AU class was all about:

  • Topic: Revit + FormIt = Bye Bye SketchUp!
  • Class Summary: For years there has been a conceptual massing part of Revit that would allow designers to do many of the things they can do in SketchUp inside of Revit directly, but this has never really caught on and designers keep returning to SketchUp for ease of use. Now with the help of FormIt you can take your project from conceptual design all the way to construction documents with these two connected products without having to leave the .RVT file format. You can begin the conceptual design in FormIt and once the design is settled continue the working drawings process inside Revit. There is also the added benefit of being able to work on FormIt on your iPad or on any computer in a web based version, this allows for anytime anywhere design to happen. FormIt also has a feature that allows real time team collaboration on a design. This means the multiple members of a team can be simultaneously working on the same file from different locations, and different FormIt platforms.
  • Class Length: 60 Minutes
  • Class Type: Instructional Demo
  • Instructor: Carl Storms – Senior Applications Expert, IMAGINiT Technologies (yup its me!)

You can download the PDF of the class Handout and PowerPoint by clicking the Dropbox link below.
