The BIMsider’s favourite Podcasts, Vodcasts and Videos from the world of AEC and BIM – for the week of Dec. 2nd – Dec. 8th, 2018.
I’m going to start this week’s Roundup off with a video from Ryan Cameron’s Youtube Channel about Refinery.
Install Refinery – Dynamo 2.0.2 +
2) Podcast – From AEM Thinking Forward Podcast
Ep. 12 – The Netflic-ification of Manufacturing Business Models, with Robbie Kellman Baxter
Summary from the Podcast website:
“The “Membership Economy” is a hot topic among business leaders, and Robbie Kellman Baxter literally wrote the book on it. In this episode, she explains how heavy equipment manufacturers can use “forever promises” like Netflix does to move from an ownership business model to a membership model. That can mean new sources of revenue, ongoing customer relationships and constant feedback.”
3) Video – From SFCDUG
SFCDUG October 2018 | Intro To Custom Dynamo Nodes In C#
Summary from the YouTube Channel:
“Intro to Custom Dynamo Nodes in C# Are you using Dynamo and need more from what is available with out-of-the-box nodes? Have you ever wanted to make a custom node in Dynamo but didn’t have any programming skills to get started? If so, this class is for you! This lecture will explain how to use and create your own custom nodes using Zero Touch and C# programming language. This lecture will also give attendees very gradual doses of Dynamo and C# programming so they leave with the skills to apply Dynamo at the workplace on practical projects. No C# programming experience is required; this class is meant for the nonprogrammer. Revit software experience is required.”
4) Podcast – From The ConTechCrew
The ConTechCrew 147: “All the Cool Kids are Doing It” with Satyam Verma of Pype
Summary from the Podcast website:
“It’s a great day to learn more about how the cool kids are processing their submittals these days with Satyam Verma of Pype! In this week’s ConTech news we discuss: data fusion, satellites, API, robot arms, power storage with bricks, and more!”
Did you know you can watch The ConTechCrew podcast on YouTube!
5) Podcast – From The IoT Podcast
Episode 193: Inside Calgary’s sensor network
Summary from the Podcast website:
“This week we tackle a bunch of device news, the rebranding of TrackR, the end of ARM’s Cordio Bluetooth IP and Nokia’s latest data on IoT botnets. We also ask what y’all think about network security devices and services for the connected home. We don’t currently consider them a must-have device, but should we? In device news, we mention Arlo’s new 4K security camera, iHome’s new mirror and alarm clock, IKEA’s $10 smart plug, Bose’s connected sunglasses, and Free ISP’s new Freebox Delta. We also discuss Kevin’s purchase of the Google Home Hub and my review of the First Alert Onelink Safe & Sound smoke detector and smart speaker. Finally, we answer a question about what connected tech belongs in the bedroom.”
6) Video – From Sean Fruin
Aligning Diffuses to Ceiling Grids
Summary from the YouTube Channel:
“Unfortunately, Revit ceiling grids are surface patterns so they can not be accessed by Dynamo. This workflow shows the next best thing. First, ceiling plans get exported and exploded in Autocad and re-import into Revit. Now Dynamo can project the gridlines to the bottom ceiling surfaces. The surfaces are divided to be 2×2 squares and diffusers placed on the nearest one and rotated into place.”
7) Vodcast – From That BIM Girl
Is GENERATIVE DESIGN the future of architecture?
Summary from the YouTube Channel:
“Thank you, Kean and Lorenzo, for taking the time to sit down with me and talk about your research!”
8) I will end this week’s Roundup with a few “teaser” videos from Anthony Hauck’s YouTube Channel about how Hypar is coming along.
